Project Details

CLIENT
City of Topeka Public Works Department

LOCATION
Topeka, KS

Over the years, the several divisions within the city’s Public Works Department had acquired and implemented different information systems to support critical business processes, which included numerous solutions for asset and maintenance management, permitting and the development of in in-house application for code enforcement. In addition to the obvious inefficiencies of multiple systems for similar purposes, the city staff also recognized the need for these systems to be integrated. The department made the decision to consolidate and integrate the systems into an enterprisewide information management and decision support system, and they selected Woolpert to partner with them on the creation and implementation.

The city can now more easily access and report on information that is essential to managing the city’s infrastructure.

Woolpert worked with the city to identify key performance indicators, map the work processes, identify gaps in the current and desired environments and develop recommendations to minimize organizational constraints and improve processes, which resulted in a five-year strategic information management master plan (IMMP). The city can now more easily access and report on information that is essential to managing the city’s infrastructure. The city has seen improved efficiencies in data collection and retrieval, cost savings in annual software maintenance and update fees and increased revenue from more accurate utility billings.
