Designed and Constructed to LEED® Silver Standards

Through construction consultant Brasfield & Gorrie Construction, LLC, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Savannah District selected Woolpert as the designer on record for the Fort Benning Starship 3240 Renovation and Training Complex. The Woolpert design-build team provided full design services for the renovation and expansion of the 250,000-square-foot barracks facility used for the housing and training of initial-entry troops.

Woolpert’s renovation of the barracks saved the USACE 50% over new construction.

In lieu of constructing an entirely new barracks facility, the Woolpert team renovated and expanded the existing 1970s barracks facility to accommodate the current needs of today’s soldiers at a substantial cost savings to the USACE. Alongside Goodwyn, Mills, and Cawood, Inc. (GMC) and Fisher Engineering, Inc., the Woolpert team provided civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering along with architecture, interior, fire protection and life safety design services.  The resulting LEED® Silver facility achieves a 30% reduction in energy consumption and costs and aligns with the USACE’s sustainability requirements.

The complicated renovation project was split into two separate USACE contracts; after the successful completion of the first phase, the Woolpert team was awarded the contract for the second phase.
