Woolpert was selected to provide civil, structural and public roadway design for the new Miami Valley Gaming and Racing facility in Lebanon, Ohio. As part of initial design and survey efforts, Woolpert determined that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplain maps were incorrect. The proposed new gaming facility—like most of the site—was not actually located within the 100-year floodplain. In a joint effort with FEMA, Woolpert completed map revision studies and corrected the floodplain maps—with the result being a reduction in the owner’s insurance costs.

Once the floodplain issues were addressed, Woolpert moved forward with multiple engineering components.

Woolpert’s project involvement also included supporting zoning changes, stabilizing the creek, performing traffic studies and negotiating with Warren County and Duke Energy for utility upgrades.
