MOT-75-7.76, EAST RIVER ROAD OVER I-75

Project Details

CLIENT
Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)

LOCATION
Dayton, OH

Concerns over the safety of the existing East River Road Bridge, a four-span continuous structure traversing I-75 in Dayton, Ohio, were raised after the bridge suffered damage from a number of vehicular strikes. Woolpert was selected to use innovative design techniques to develop plans for raising the existing structure’s profile while eliminating the need for any additional right-of-way.

Woolpert designed the new profile (with a rise of over two feet) and associated cross sections on both ends of the existing structure. We also examined a combination of short retaining walls, structurally reinforced slopes and slope stabilization to eliminate impacts to adjacent property owners. Additionally, Woolpert provided services in support of the relocation of existing utilities, traffic maintenance plan and detour signage.
