It takes a state-of-the-art company to build semis, school buses, RVs and military vehicles. And it takes an intelligent firm to help that company stay ahead of the times. But that was no problem for our design group as they worked on a project for Navistar, the publicly traded U.S. company that produces International brand commercial and military trucks, as well as MaxxForce engines, Holiday Rambler RVs and several other well-known brands of trucks and vehicles.

Lying about 20 miles west of Chicago, the Navistar plant in Melrose Park, Ill., was originally built in the 1940s. With a footprint of two million square feet, the plant was designed for truck and engine assembly, but the company wanted to redesign almost half the space for research and development opportunities for the trucks and engines.

Woolpert provided full, detailed design services for the $70-million renovation, which included surveying and structural; mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP); and civil engineering. Along with the interior renovations, the project team also incorporated aspects to help eliminate storm runoff on the site and improve energy use.
