DoDEA manages over 190 military-dependent schools worldwide with the goal of providing safe, attractive and functional educational facilities for students in kindergarten through high school. Woolpert was selected to provide comprehensive architecture and engineering design services for the improvement project at West Point Middle School. To better serve its approximately 300 students, West Point Middle School required numerous improvements—from additional instructional and multi-use space to the renovation of a historic building and demolition of an unusable structure.

We met the design challenge with plans for a 31,000-square-foot addition to the main school building. This addition provides space for general purpose classrooms, science labs, information center, multi-purpose room, kitchen, cafeteria and administrative offices. Woolpert also developed renovation plans for a 40,000-square-foot historic 1934 building and demolition plans for an aging, 12,000-square-foot building. The new facility incorporates modern features for student instruction, while at the same time, promising to reduce both energy and water use significantly.
