Aviation Planning Initiatives

Airport Master Plan
Woolpert successfully completed EGE’s 2014 Airport Master Plan. Key efforts included inventorying facilities, updating base mapping, forecasting general aviation and commercial activity, preparing a facility requirements assessment, developing a 20-year CIP and funding strategies, assessing the environmental impacts, providing effective outreach to the public and stakeholders, and updating the ALP drawings. The plan also included airside geometry analyses, approach analyses, landside traffic flow and parking analyses, and ultimately set the stage for the most recent terminal redevelopment.
Approach Procedures
Woolpert worked with EGE and a large group of professionals from all aspects of the industry, including the FAA, commercial airlines, and general aviation experts, to develop new departure procedures for Runway 25. These new procedures are providing better and safer options for aircraft flying in and out of EGE. While the newest technology improves safety buffers, the fundamental challenge remains the same—how to guide the pilots and aircraft through the mountains. This project provided guidance to keep the aircraft over the lowest part of the valley and centered between the highest points of terrain.
Emergency Response Preparedness
Woolpert actively assisted EGE in conducting its tri-annual FSE in 2017. The effort included components for area emergency response organizations and agencies, selected medical facilities, county and municipal representatives, and other selected entities. The exercise was designed to demonstrate and evaluate the area’s capability to respond to a Mass Causality Incident at the airport. During high-stress incidents, effective emergency response comes from well-trained and prepared personnel.
