Environmental and Sediment Classification Survey for Broadbeach Restoration Project

Woolpert completed a detailed and highly sensitive environmental and sediment classification survey as part of the Broadbeach Restoration Project offshore of Malibu, CA. Woolpert acquired data using a myriad of data collection techniques and sonars, including a mounted dual frequency sidescan sonar, ultra-high density and high-resolution multibeam sonar with backscatter and water column, and multispectral multibeam sonar data.
Woolpert's in-house team of marine scientists completed an in-depth analysis of the data to determine accurate extents of rock outcroppings, gravel, sand, and mud sediments. In addition, the Woolpert team identified marine vegetation using methodology and sonar analysis techniques developed in partnership with sonar manufacturers. This project allowed a new level of sediment determination and analysis to be conducted using multispectral data acquisition and processing.
