Dean Road Interceptor Sewer Rehabilitation

Woolpert provided flow monitoring, alternatives evaluation and preliminary design, and will provide final design, permitting, bidding and construction/administration services for the rehabilitation and replacement of the Dean Road interceptor sewer. The project is slated to take approximately two years from preliminary through final design, bidding and construction.

The interceptor sewer transports wastewater from the eastern sections of the city to the Iron Bridge Wastewater Treatment Plant and is the sole gravity-feed line between the two areas. As a result of the pipe’s age, which was installed in 1981, leaks began forming—causing ground settlement under roadbeds and necessitating replacement.

The project includes 9,900 linear feet of 72-inch and 78-inch gravity sewer trunk lines and the rehabilitation of more than 20 manholes. Because the line serves as the only connection between east Orlando and the wastewater treatment plant, the line needed to remain in service throughout the upgrade process. Woolpert recommended a segmented slip-line approach to ensure uninterrupted service throughout construction.
