HOUSTON AIRPORT SYSTEM PAVEMENT ASSET CONDITION ASSESSMENT AND MOBILE MAPPING

The Woolpert team developed condition assessment ratings of the runway and taxiway systems, including pavements, markings, lighting and airfield signs at the Houston Airport System’s (HAS) three airports: Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) and Ellington Field Airport (EFD). At IAH, Woolpert fast-tracked the assessments and minimized impact to airport operations through the use of a mobile mapping system (MMS). Using the MMS to collect runway and taxiway data across approximately 314 lane miles (1,660 miles), Woolpert acquired a rich, 5TB database of over 550,000 high-resolution images and 23 billion LiDAR points.
The data collection area covered approximately 314 line miles (1,660 acres). Over the short, 11-day data collection timespan, Woolpert collected over 5 TB of raw data in the form of 550,000 images and 23 billion LiDAR points. We provided complete electronic data deliverables for integration with the Houston Airport System’s GIS and InforEAM system.
