Hydrographic Survey for Nikiski Outfall Pipe

A fish processing plant, located in Nikiski, AK, contracted Woolpert to conduct a hydrographic survey in the vicinity to map the outfall pipe to the plant. The survey consisted of multibeam data collection at multiple frequencies as well as backscatter data collection, drop camera video transects, and grab samples throughout the area. Based on the preliminary assumptions, it was suggested the outfall pipe was blocked due to fish waste. Utilizing the complete survey package, it was concluded the waste did not exist, and the actual issue was related to inflections in the pipe due to strong tides and sediment movement in the area.
