IAA On-Call Consulting Services
Woolpert and the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) have a project history and long-standing working relationship dealing with several IAA’s airport projects including multiple aviation planning, design, and construction assignments. Examples of our work under IAA on-call contracts include:
Indianapolis International Airport Storm System Improvements. Woolpert provided a solution to repair, rehabilitate, and/or replace portions of the airport’s existing stormwater drainage system to correct joint offsets and misalignments, sedimentation, settlement, pipe deformities, and overall functionality of the system to intended operability. Work was scheduled and delivered in five months. Work was budgeted at $45,000 and was completed within that plan.
Indianapolis Regional Airport Runway 7-25 Reconstruction Part A Design/Study. Woolpert provided preliminary engineering and programming for the runway project, including all associated taxiway connectors. Services included civil/site engineering, aviation planning, surveying, and MEP support. The project schedule was a moving target: changes to design standards and software caused the client to push the schedule out six months. The client budgeted $40,000 for this work, which did not match the effort involved. Actual project fees were over $100,000. Woolpert communicated with IAA about both schedule and budget throughout the project to ensure clear direction, coordination, and progress.
Indianapolis Regional Airport West Hangar and Terminal Concept Design. Jet Access needed a comprehensive concept design for a new FBO terminal, two new hangars, and apron design at the airport next to their existing facilities. Woolpert provided the concept design for all new facilities and has completed construction documents on the west hangar and apron; construction began in March 2022. The concept for the terminal included offices, conference rooms, gathering space, pilot support, passenger waiting area, and utility space. As part of the concept design, we balanced a sleek and modern design with cost-effective exterior materials.
Hendricks County Airport Layout Plan Implementation. Woolpert established a plan to implement the future projects in the latest Airport Layout Plan (ALP) for the airport. The implementation plan included the development of Rough-Order-Magnitude (ROM) cost estimates used to evaluate project and program feasibility for the intended use to assist the IAA in project selection for current and future capital improvement projects.
