Within this framework, Woolpert’s contributions were multifaceted, involving thorough in-person site inspections of existing and potential ports along the Red Sea and various inland tourism locales across KSA.
These site inspections aimed to evaluate the present state and potential of each location to function as either a short-term or long-term port of call for the cruise industry within the region. Woolpert undertook a comprehensive analysis of the current marine and upland infrastructure at each site, formulating preliminary cost estimates for both interim modifications, to cater to the expected near-term demand, and extensive, long-term enhancements to accommodate a fully developed Red Sea cruise market.
Moreover, Woolpert projected future berth requirements and the phased infrastructure developments necessary from 2020 to 2035, utilizing traffic models supplied by the prime consultant, Strategy. This forward-looking analysis facilitated the creation of conceptual site plans for six key ports in KSA. Woolpert's findings and proposed plans offered a strategic blueprint for realizing KSA’s ambitions as a premier cruise destination.
