Background
Brisbane Airport (BNE) is Queensland’s major aviation gateway, connecting the state to Australia and the world. Upon completion of its new parallel runway project, one of the biggest private infrastructure projects in the southern hemisphere, Brisbane Airport recognized the potential of Geocortex Essentials/VertiGIS Studio. Woolpert facilitated the data handover from the runway construction consortium, highlighting the value of the data during the defect period and beyond, and revolutionizing airport processes.
Challenge
Amidst significant transformations to its runway network, Brisbane Airport needed a GIS solution fit for its unique needs. Requirements included data compatibility and efficient implementation of its Geocentric Datum of Australia (GDA) 2020 strategy. It was crucial for the airport’s small GIS team to select a platform that optimized GIS operations and prioritized user experience.
Solution
Brisbane Airport’s previous experience with Geocortex during the runway project’s data handover, combined with the platform’s practical applications and data management ease, drove their decision to adopt an enterprise GIS solution. Woolpert facilitated the transition to VertiGIS Studio, providing tailored solutions and training, while supporting the airport’s GIS goals through premium services and system enhancements.
Result
Since implementing VertiGIS Studio, Brisbane Airport has greatly enhanced user experience and functionality. The platform allows seamless app deployment, simplified document rotation aligned to infrastructure needs, enabled GDA implementation, and effortless integration with CAD. While the GIS system continues to evolve, the airport anticipates additional applications and value made possible with VertiGIS Studio.
