Bermello Ajamil, a wholly owned subsidiary of Woolpert, serving as the Engineer of Record, completed the civil and marine engineering design of Terminal V’s cruise berth at PortMiami. The project presented a significant engineering challenge: redeveloping an obsolete site at the port, previously inaccessible to cruise ships due to their length and draft.

The project team's innovative approach not only facilitated the accommodation of large cruise ships but also emphasized resiliency. The engineering solutions implemented include upland design features, the creation of an operational apron area, a 750-foot anchored bulkhead, maintenance and berth deepening dredging design, the construction of independent mooring bollard foundation structures, and proactive measures for sea-level rise, exemplified by constructing the terminal 11.5 feet above grade. Through these efforts, the team transformed an inoperative berth into a highly functional one for PortMiami.
