Mapping Underwater Terrain with Bathymetric Lidar

In this Hydro International Magazine article, Woolpert Vice President and Chief Hydrographer Carol Lockhart shares details of a high-resolution bathymetric survey project in the Kingdom of Tonga, a Polynesian archipelago comprising 169 islands in the South Pacific Ocean.

Lockhart describes how iXBlue, together with EOMAP Australia and Geomatics Data Solutions (now Woolpert), applied a multi-sensor approach to collect topographic and bathymetric data to map the Tongan archipelago and surrounding areas. The project provided 3D water depth information and improved the nautical chart of the region.
