Woolpert Hires Vop Osili to Lead Urban Design Projects in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 25, 2020) — Architect Vop Osili has joined Woolpert as an architectural program director working out of the firm’s Indianapolis office. Osili brings extensive experience in urban design and architecture, having led projects throughout the United States, Africa and the Middle East.

Osili holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree in architecture and urban design from Columbia University.  He was also a founding member of one of the first architecture firms in the nation to practice sustainable design in pursuit of LEED certification. He said he sees architecture as “a unique blend of art and science,” and believes Woolpert’s combined expertise in architecture, engineering and geospatial (AEG) services is a great advantage that “pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.”

“There is considerable value in having architecture, engineering and geospatial services all under one roof,” Osili said. “It creates the ability to shepherd projects from beginning to end. This approach leads to greater design integration and wider opportunities for creative collaboration, and it is much more cost effective for clients.”

Osili also is serving in his second term as president of the Indianapolis City-County Council. A former candidate for the Indiana Secretary of State, Osili has been engaged in the local community through civic organizations for more than two decades, supporting local groups that include the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and the Madam Walker Legacy Center.

Woolpert Senior Vice President and Market Director Chris Perry said Osili brings fresh ideas for architectural design and urban development in the context of societal issues such as equity, affordable housing and police/community relations.

“Through his world travels and public service, Vop has acquired unique insights and a depth of understanding that are critical to today’s urban planning needs,” Perry said. “He has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in business and as a public official, and we’re excited to have him join our team.”
