Woolpert Selected to Design $77 Million Replacement of Two Schools on Fort Campbell

ST. LOUIS (August 26, 2011) Woolpert recently announced that it has been selected to design a $77 million replacement of Barkley Elementary School and Wassom Middle School on Fort Campbell, Ky.

Woolpert’s St. Louis design team will provide architectural as well as civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services for the two schools totaling nearly 220,000 square feet. Barkley Elementary School will be approximately 114,000 square feet and Wassom Middle School will be approximately 104,000 square feet. Prior to beginning design of the facilities, Woolpert completed a planning charrette that involved a site investigation, interviews and a validation of project scope and budget review.

This project falls under Woolpert’s five-year, $12 million, open-end contract with the    Norfolk District, Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE). Through this contract, the Norfolk District and Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) have access to Woolpert’s planning and design services for schools and military facilities on an as-needed basis.

“DoDEA manages more than 190 military-dependent schools worldwide, and Woolpert is proud to help them continue to achieve their goal of providing high-quality educational facilities across the world,” said Dave Rickard, Woolpert vice president and director of design services.

The project will include classrooms, a gymnasium, information center, computer lab, kitchen and cafeteria, music room, art room, special education room, teacher work rooms, counseling areas and administrative offices.
