Woolpert Welcomes GIS Specialist, Photogrammetrist Sam Wolf as Geospatial Project Manager

DENVER (Aug. 24, 2020) — GIS Specialist and Photogrammetrist Sam Wolf has joined Woolpert as a geospatial project manager, bringing his passion for delivering urban solutions to real-world challenges.

Wolf has worked for the last eight years leading and executing projects with remote sensing technologies on manned aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Puget Sound and specialized in software product management at the University of Alberta. Fluent in several languages, Wolf is well-versed in data analytics and intelligence applications, and has delivered solutions for governments and commercial end users in the U.S. and internationally.

In previous positions, Wolf executed an emergency aerial mapping mission after Brazil’s largest recorded mining disaster and held a technical site lead position for overseas operations of a manned mapping aircraft with specialized radar, full-motion video and air-to-ground systems for military objectives in Europe. He also worked in close collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service and Orange County Fire Authority to develop and implement industry standards for Incident Awareness and Assessment deliverables using 24-hour, manned aerial firefighting assets.

Wolf said he’s looking forward to supporting a wide variety of clients around the world and exploring the opportunities at Woolpert, adding that the firm’s transparent stance on inclusion and diversity as well as its culture of employee value and appreciation were important factors in his decision. He said the timing was perfect for him to join the architecture, engineering and geospatial firm, which he noted is “leading the industry in traditional mapping and pushing the envelope of what’s possible.”

“As the accuracy, resolution and datasets of aerial mapping improve, the question becomes, ‘What are we going to do with this data?’ ” Wolf said. “Many GIS technologies are already bringing forth emerging smart cities that revolve around the person, not the automobile; and these technologies become increasingly relevant with current national and worldwide events. The high-accuracy and high-resolution data that Woolpert provides are key to these advancing technologies.”

Woolpert Vice President and Market Director Darius Hensley said Wolf’s experience working on projects in the defense industry and on the international stage has exposed him to a diverse range of geospatial technologies.

“Sam has worked in multiple leadership, aerial survey and data-focused roles to help start-up companies get off the ground in the geospatial industry,” Hensley said. “His GIS, photogrammetry and UAS experience will enrich the firm’s ability to integrate the latest technologies into innovative solutions that directly benefit our clients.”
