Overcoming DOT Staffing Shortages with Automated Traffic Analysis Tools
Woolpert’s AI development team, Atlas Labs, has partnered with Rivers Agile, a deep-tech consulting firm that builds practical technology for complex operational environments, to convert Woolpert’s hyper-dense aerial lidar data and elevation data into immersive, 3D simulations using the NVIDIA Omniverse. This project demonstrates how detailed geospatial datasets can be visualized in realistic environments to support digital twins, infrastructure monitoring, and environmental response planning for a variety of architectural, engineering, and geospatial clients.
Rivers Agile contributed advanced 3D rendering expertise, including techniques such as Gaussian splatting, to preserve the precision and structure of Woolpert’s datasets. They are currently expanding their Omniverse capabilities for physics‑based simulations for a broad spectrum of industrial use cases.
The project demonstrates how geospatial data and GeoAI, paired with the Omniverse, can support infrastructure monitoring and planning, environmental response planning, and situational awareness beyond today’s static standards. Woolpert and Rivers Agile are both located in the Pittsburgh tech environment and will continue to work together developing forward-thinking spatial outputs with real-world benefits.
