Woolpert Joins Lancaster County in Breaking Ground on $30M Regional Park

Woolpert led planning and design for the 84-acre park, which will expand recreation, youth sports, and community gathering spaces for Lancaster County residents. 

LANCASTER, S.C. (Aug. 26, 2026) — Lancaster County has broken ground on its new $30 million, 84-acre Lancaster County Regional Park, marking one of the largest parks and recreation investments in the county’s history. 

The vision for the park was established through a comprehensive parks and recreation master planning effort completed in 2022. Developed by Woolpert in partnership with Lancaster County Parks and Recreation and adopted by the County Council, the master planning process evaluated current and future recreation needs, public input, demographic trends, and long-term growth to create a vision that will serve Lancaster County residents for decades. 

Woolpert provided planning, architecture, landscape architecture, civil engineering, permitting, and bidding services for the project and will continue supporting the county during construction through observation services, helping bring Lancaster County’s long-term vision to life. 

Located approximately 10 minutes from downtown Lancaster along U.S. Highway 521 (Charlotte Highway) within the Roselyn community, the park is designed to meet the recreational needs of one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing areas. The park is also intended to serve as a regional destination for athletic tournaments and special events, generating economic activity for local hotels, restaurants, retailers, and other businesses. 

“I believe I share the same excitement as our citizens as we celebrate the groundbreaking of our new regional park,” Lancaster County Council Chairman Brian Carnes shared with the Fort Mill Sun. “This will be more than a place with championship-quality athletic fields. It will be a place where families gather, children play, athletes compete, and our community comes together. Most importantly, this is an investment that will serve Lancaster County today and create memories and opportunities for generations in the future.” 

When complete, the park will feature: 

• A collegiate-size baseball stadium and two additional baseball/softball fields 

• A championship-quality multiuse athletic field and community building 

• Two additional multiuse athletic fields 

• A splash pad and family recreation area 

• Walking trails and pedestrian connections throughout the park

Lancaster County is making a lasting investment in its future by creating a destination that supports recreation, health, economic development, and an exceptional quality of life. Construction is underway, with the park expected to open to the public by spring 2028.
