Woolpert launched the AMS implementation project by performing a needs assessment to better understand the airport’s day-to-day operational needs. The first phase of the asset implementation plan focused on airfield data, airfield maintenance needs, Part 139 inspections and vehicle maintenance. During the second project phase, Woolpert performed facility condition assessments on assets located within RFD facilities to identify priority needs, establish budget demands and evaluate repair-versus-replacement costs. Staff began using Cityworks on a daily basis and quickly realized its benefits over the previous, outdated, whiteboard tracking system. Immediately recognized advantages included the ability to electronically log and share Part 139 inspections with FAA inspectors; a streamlined process for monitoring and closing work orders; and the development of heat maps identifying problem areas in and around the airfield.

In the near future, RFD will implement a system extension to track warehouse inventory and facilitate just-in-time ordering of parts and equipment, further defining the RFD AMS as a one-stop-shop solution for maintenance, operations and management.
