WATER TREATMENT PLANT DESIGN-CITY OF AIKEN

Project Details

CLIENT
City of Aiken

LOCATION
Aiken, SC

The city of Aiken, SC, contracted Woolpert when increased development in the Woodside neighborhood created significant water pressure drops and water supply issues that the existing water plant couldn’t handle. Expansion of the existing storage and supply was not deemed economically feasible, so the city decided to construct a new water plant and well field.

Woolpert designed the new Silver Bluff Water Plant to treat raw water from the Middendorf aquifer to enhance the quantity, quality and pressure of the water needs for the area’s current and future residential, commercial and light industrial customers.

Woolpert’s engineering team designed the following potable water treatment plant components:

  • 2 wells
  • 2,700-linear-foot raw water line
  • 3 MGD water treatment plant
  • 750,000-gallon ground storage tank
  • 3 booster pumps
  • 4,200-linear-foot distribution line

Woolpert separated the overall project into three construction projects. Construction was completed in time for seasonal peak water demand.
