Carol L.

Technical Subject Matter Expert, Portland

Geospatial scientist, engineer and small business owner navigated by map at just eight years old. Today, uses lasers to map the ocean floor. Favorite project: surveying Cook Inlet for one of NOAA’s first contracted hydrographic projects in the ‘90s. Extremely proud of how her team navigated those technical and environment challenges.

Associations: HSRP, THSOA
Owner, Geomatics Data Solutions
Awards: Lt. Cmdr. Peter Johnson Best Practices Award (reducing standard processing time by 75% on a demanding airborne lidar survey with JALBTCX), Sebastian Sizgoric Technical Achievement Award (working with multiple bathymetric lidar sensors)

Lizzell B.

RS and Government Program Director, Johannesburg, South Africa

In her 20s, helped UN efforts in Africa. Her early 30s featured maps and architecture. But Lizzell’s ultimate goal? Working with outer space partners (imagery, not aliens). Heartfelt humanitarian looks up to amazing women: Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank and Dr. Tanya Harrison, planetary scientist with NASA creds. Being a woman in geospatial means breaking glass ceilings.

Founder and CEO, LABOS GeoSpatial and Geo Data Design

Natasha H.

Discipline Leader, Nebraska Telecommuter

Accidental geospatial expert with a BS in chemistry (it’s a long, marvelous story). Advocate of the female perspective and queen of team organization, finds satisfaction placing folks in the right roles. Models work ethic after her mother—a leading occupational therapist.

Certifications: PMP
Associations: SAME (multiple positions)
Awards: SAME Doug Plack Golden Eagle Award, Post President’s Award, RVP Medal for Outstanding Service

Ryan B.

Geospatial Team Leader, Dayton

A bird, a plane… Ryan?! Spent time in the sky capturing detailed land photography (down to the ears of cows). She now guarantees perfection in every photo she delivers. Feels at home with geospatial’s limitless ideas and opportunities. Loves statewide imagery projects, and of course, her mother.

Certifications: GISP
Associations: ASPRS (Eastern Great Lakes Region), URISA, KAMP, IGIC, ESIP

Kim H.

Marketing Manager, Charlotte

Outed by her four-year-old during quarantine for not making “real maps on paper” (apparently computers don’t count). Stumbled into a geography/GIS double major her senior year of college and never looked back—especially during field work in San Salvador, Bahamas. Inspired by priceless friendships from USGIF’s Young Geospatial Professional program and loves seeing growing female leadership in geospatial.

Associations: Board participation for NCAUG, NC APWA, YPG USGIF and Charlotte GIS User Group with heavy involvement in MAPPS, ASPRS, OGRIP, AWIC, USGIF and NSGIC

Megan B.

Geospatial Project Manager, Dayton

Defines “work” as poring over photos of cool places most people never get to see. Long-time map lover discovered geospatial by way of archeology in the Caribbean and Central America. Loves that her work with NOAA lets her take trips to the coast. Megan supports the strong and growing voice of women in the industry. Best work location? Definitely Hawaii—diverse terrain, gorgeous bathy…and oh, the sites!

Associations: Esri, PRiMO

Cheryl K.

Data Cloud Solutions, Colorado Telecommuter

Cheryl unknowingly fell in love with geospatial almost 30 years ago. Uses CAMA programs to provide info and maps for property appraisers. Once appraised a residence built into a blasted cliffside (cool, right?). Clients love her simplistic techniques—no more after-hours paperwork. Inspired by her Army Major daughter-in-law.

Certifications: Numerous IAAO certificates (IAAO instructor workshop)
Associations: IAAO

Shelly C.

Geospatial Program Director, Minnesota Telecommuter

Motivated and considerate horse raiser and geospatial master. Identified GIS as a passion just minutes into her first university GIS class—has since developed the first in-aircraft geospatial data collection for Minnesota. Grew up amongst a strong-rooted family tree of women. Hopes to carry forward the gifts of women before: integrity, commitment, quality, respect and thoughtfulness.

Certifications: PMP, ACP, CBAP
Associations: ASPRS (Western Great Lakes Region secretary), IIBI, IWI (board of directors), PMI, AUVSI (Great Plains Chapter president), NIMS (multiple roles)

Carla F.

Aviation Project Manager, Telecommuter

Drawing, painting and creating sum up Carla’s childhood. Oh, and the sound of planes (grew up next to CVG airport). A strong woman who isn’t afraid to stand her ground shows why women belong in aviation. As for CVG, eventually she landed a job there. Now Carla designs a wide variety of airport facilities for Woolpert. Her 36-year career has seen lots of change, building excitement for the twists and turns of the future!

Sara C.

Geospatial Technician, Jviation Denver

Delights in working in aviation. How could she not? It advances world travel, helps people connect and delivers support to remote areas. Rewarding and amazing. What else is amazing? Her college advisor—a prime example of a professional woman, passionate leader and talented instructor. Sara wants all young women to strive for the career they desire. Don’t be afraid to chase your ambitions.

Laura R.

Engineer in Training, Jviation Denver

Quick to take on new responsibilities and wear various hats while learning her trade. Loves the variety of aircraft out there—always something amazing to look at. Laura’s a goal setter with her eyes on the prize. Right now, that’s passing the PE exam. Coolest project to date? The Rolla National Airport full-depth reclamation project (Jviation’s first in Missouri). Talk about a milestone!

Rebecca K.

Engineer Project Manager, Dayton

Has flown countless times and understands how planes work. Yet is STILL amazed we can propel a hollow metal vessel through the air. From Air Force JROTC to ROTC to 10 years active duty as a civil engineer to Woolpert today—quite the adventure! Hopes to be remembered as committed to integrity, service and excellence.

Will invisible airplanes ever be a thing? Rebecca can’t see them taking off.
ROTFL 🤣🤣

Maria M.

Aviation Planner, Indianapolis

See those big metal birds in the sky? M2 determines where they will land. Finds meaning in doing something well, no matter who does it. No one really understands what she does… but everyone thinks it’s cool (#InfrastructurePlannerProblems). Her aviation kick start: dad purchased a plane when she was 15 (thought it’d be cool to tell her friends was “busy flying”). Her mother was a model of strength, love and grace.

Hilary F.

Director of Community and Governmental Affairs, Jviation Denver

Creative problem solving. Dynamics. Fluidity. Reasons to love the aviation industry. Unable to name a single favorite project, but could easily draft a six-page list. After 20 years working in government, Hilary leapt into the private sector—and stuck the landing. Follows in the footsteps of her mother, WWII Marine Corps veteran and teacher of celestial navigation to USAAF and RAF pilots. Passionate about giving voice to the voiceless. She’s passing you the mic.

Jen N.

Marketing and Business Administration Manager, Jviation Denver

Forward thinking and dynamic—what being a woman in aviation means to Jen. Lists author Anna Quindlen as a philosophical inspiration (need a great book recommendation?). 25-year industry veteran, Jen’s still wowed by aviation’s ability to connect people and resources. Has accomplished much in her lifetime, but the biggest challenge is yet to come—teaching twin sons to drive!

Melissa R.

Geospatial Project Manager, Telecommuter

Self-appointed protector of planes. More than meeting industry standards, creating them is what Melissa loves about Woolpert’s role in aviation. What stands out being a woman in aviation? The valuable fellowship among female colleagues. This go-getter’s advice—never be afraid to take on a new challenge. If your dreams don’t scare you (at least a little), you aren’t thinking big enough.

Drishti V.

Geospatial Technician, Telecommuter

Longed for an unusual career in her home country, India. “Aerospace engineering”—words discovered at age 17. Free flights fuel her love of aviation (kidding… maybe). Admires how aviation influences work between people around the world. Pushes boundaries—the sky is no limit for females. Women can achieve anything they want in their industry. Lifetime goals: To travel, experience different cultures and contribute to technological advancements in the aviation industry.

Jill G.

Consultant, Columbus

Love of aviation began young—building model airplanes with dad (let’s not talk about flight success rate). Looks up to Bessie Coleman (first African American woman pilot), Geraldine Mock (first woman to fly around the world in a single-engine Cessna) and Kitty O’Brien Joyner (NASA’s first female engineer). Jill realizes life isn’t a dress rehearsal—live large, love fully, continue learning and meet amazing people along the way.

Morgan E.

Environmental Planner, Jviation Denver

High school dreams of piloting planes evolved into an environmental airport planning career. Aviation = travel, excitement, constant change! Believes women are critically important and equal contributors to national and global aviation. When the work/life balance starts tipping, looks for inspiration in strong women, like Amelia Earhart or the ladies of NASA (you HAVE to see “Hidden Figures”). Raising daughter and two sons to value the uniqueness of men and women.

Melissa M.

Discipline Leader, Telecommuter

Uses math, science and creativity to safeguard buildings. Mom of two had to learn it’s okay to unplug and spend time with loved ones. Sees aviation as the connector of people to distant places and cultures. Current inspiration—Alice Burke and Nell Richardson, who drove over 10K miles cross-country promoting voting for women. Words for girls: Stay curious. Express your creativity. Keep an open mind. Ask ALL the questions.

Kaitlyn T.

Engineer Designer, Telecommuter

Don’t let anyone decide what YOUR happiness should be—Kaitlyn’s advice for women working towards their dreams. This airplane road designer originally applied for a civil site position (best life plot twist ever). Need a great conversation starter? Tell people you work in aviation. Grateful she can make an impact when some women don’t have the opportunity.

Angela P.

Marketing Specialist, Dayton

Joined Woolpert in April, has yet to work a day @ the actual office (thanks, pandemic). Nonetheless, enjoys supporting coworkers virtually. Raised in the Philippines where she befriended shoemakers in her parents’ factory. This optimistic mother has done many outrageous things—yet credits giving birth to twins as the coolest. Comfy nights in? Animated films, Filipino spaghetti and calligraphy practice. Adopted dog Kenobi from a litter of Star Wars pups. On her days off, you might find Angela at SISCA playing—oops, volunteering—with the animals.

Michelle B.

Mechanical Engineer, Fairview Heights

This girl was born to travel—visited every state except Alaska by age 14. Despite distaste for the cold, recently kept things cool by skiing the slopes of Vail, Breckenridge and Keystone with family. Seafood loving, designer of heating and cooling systems enjoys the unique challenges and flexibility Woolpert offers. Deeply misses face-to-face time with awesome Woolpies during the pandemic, but new interactions between offices has ushered in a different kind of closeness to coworkers across the board.

Mindy D.

Graphic Designer, Dayton

Maple Syrup Weekend, Harley road trips, walks around the creek—who comes to mind? Mindy, Woolpert’s brochure/poster/event/package designer and facilitator extraordinaire. Already outside 90% of the time, it’s where she plans to retire. Always strives to make an impact, like when she completed the Susan Komen 60-mile walk. Outreach doesn’t stop there: she delivers groceries for COVID-19 relief and supports the Randolph House and Irish Club of Dayton. Maintains her inspiration with a little help from her friends—and the infectious positive energy emanating from Woolpert’s mail room—yes you, Toni!

Jennifer S.

GIS Solutions Specialist, the Dayton mothership

Creator of treasure maps and teller of hidden stories buried her childhood nose in National Geographic magazines. Jennifer’s a GEO-lover: first GEOlogy, now GEOspatial. Privileged to help extend industry diversity. “Always be willing to learn and let your passions drive you.”

Associations: Esri, THSOA

Keenan M.—Army

Engineering Technician, Atlanta

Retired Army Sergeant followed family tradition: every male on his father’s side has served in the U.S. military—even before there was a “U.S. military.” Eight years of active duty, another four and half in the Georgia National Guard. Keenan was deployed not one or two but three times for a total of 36 months (Iraq twice and Afghanistan once). Favorite assignment with the personal security detachment: transporting VIPs via helicopter, tank and SUV. Proud to bring safety to villages and help locals live in a better place.

Dave S.—Marines

Chief Pilot, Atlanta

Active duty Marine from 1975 to 1979. Field artillery officer, 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines, 2d Marine Division. Interest in aerial survey stemmed from experience with artillery. In peacetime, had to survey gun positions carefully to ensure that rounds didn’t go outside impact areas. Proud that his unit never “shot out” when Dave did the survey.

Nadja T.—Air Force

Environmental Engineer/R&D Facilitator, Dayton

Air Force Captain with 10 years of service who realized her desire to serve during a high school equal rights debate. First and best assignment: Germany, straight out of college. Also served in Georgia and Ohio, working as an Air Force Civil Engineer. Appreciates that the military pushed her out of her comfort zones (and out of an airplane!). Nadja received tremendous support from Woolpert during her three years of Reserve duty.

Lee E.—Army

On-Site Geospatial Specialist, Texas

Marked with family pride, both grandfathers and two uncles served. Army veteran became Sergeant within two years of active duty. Breakdown of his eight-year service: six months as a future solider, four years active duty, three and a half years Army Reserve. Deployments included Afghanistan and a mobilization to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. First permanent duty station: Tompkins Barracks in Schwetzingen, Germany. Unable to choose a favorite assignment—loves them all for strengthening him. Aside from his job as a solider always ready for duty, was a geospatial engineer in the Army Corps of Engineers, using the same ArcGIS software he does now at Woolpert.

Lee S.—Navy

Engineer Program Director, Atlanta

Six years of serving in the Navy, Lee ranked as Electronics Technician Second Class (E5). Military job—shipboard nuclear reactor operator and technician. During his duty, was met with two Western Pacific deployments. Considers his favorite experience to be his 1986 WESTPAC deployment with the USS New Jersey battle group. Most proud of keeping peace through strength in the Cold War era.

Brian C.—Air Force

Advisory Services Defense Market Director, Dayton

Followed in the footsteps of his father, a WWII Navy and Merchant Marine veteran. Brian, a retired Air Force Colonel, spent three decades in service at sites from Onizuka AF Station in California to the USAF Academy in Colorado and even the Office of the Secretary of Defense in D.C. After four years at the USAF Academy, Brian had a refreshing change pursuing his master’s in remote sensing at the University of California, Santa Barbara. While assigned to the Pentagon, privileged to buil the USAF GeoBase program with USAF airmen, civil servants and contractors.

Mike H.—Army

Senior Strategist, Alabama Telecommuter

With 28.5 years of Army service, Mike reached Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5) rank. Family patriotism dates all the way back to the Civil War. Deployed during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Stationed in six states with overseas assignments to Central America, West Germany and Korea. Honored to play a part in the fall of the Berlin Wall, withdrawal of Soviet Forces from Eastern Europe, liberation of Kuwait and development of BuckEye to visualize terrain. Retired as  Army’s senior geospatial subject matter expert—lucky for Woolpert!

Jose R.—Marines

Survey Technician Field, Chesapeake

Over 13 faithful years in the Marines, deployed numerous times: a six-month Mediterranean float and two six-month Pacific Rim floats. Sergeant (E-5) mentored junior Marines and helped the less fortunate in countries such as Sri Lanka, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Egypt, to name a few. What takes the gold? Hawaii—loved learning the culture. Also enjoyed his time with combat engineers rebuilding houses and schools in Thailand. While a radio operator and green belt martial arts instructor, was attached to an artillery battalion and surveyed areas to set up base operations.

Felicia H.—Navy

Interior Designer, Chesapeake

When deciding to join the Navy for college funds, Felicia didn’t realize it would be the best decision she ever made—for many reasons! One, realizing her natural compassion: live, breathe and possibly die for the person next to you. Honorably discharged as Petty Officer Second Class (E-5). In seven years of service, had two eight-month deployments out in the “Big Blue.” As a Woolpert interior designer, designing an armory is no problem. Intimate knowledge of unique spaces comes from working in so many (thanks to stints as an MK 160 Gun Weapon System Operator and Technician and a Tomahawk Missile Operator and Technician).

Shawn M.—Air Force

Architect Program Director, Dayton

As an Air Force child, Shawn was drawn to the great people, interesting places and unique cultures. For 27 years, this Air Force Colonel had four deployments and 12 assignments: two overseas (Germany and South Korea) and one unaccompanied. Bloomed where planted—rebuilt an overseas base and led the Department of Defense Fire Academy. Saw all assignments as challenging, rewarded by serving alongside great, focused teams. Took pride and pleasure in learning from and supporting his Airmen and working closely with Soldiers, Sailors and Marines through assignments and deployments around the globe. Thankful for Woolpert’s continued contributions as a military design partner.

Seth D.—Army

Engineer Team Leader, Indianapolis

With the final rank of Captain, this Army veteran served four years active duty. Seth takes pride in promoting soldiers and administering the oath of reenlistment (any time someone achieved their goals). Hard work pays off. Stationed at Fort Lee, Fort Lewis and Fort Jackson, with training rotations out of Fort Irwin and Yongsan in South Korea. Cherished his time as a platoon leader—building trust with diverse soldiers experiencing the same hardships.

LaWanna Z.—Air Force

Regional Business Manager, Columbia

Following in the footsteps of her grandfather, father, uncles and brother, LaWanna made the decision to serve. Air Force Staff Sergeant found it cool to trade letters with her dad and brother while all three were on tours. Active for six years with one deployment, LaWanna served the 1876th Communications Group at USAFA, CO; 2146th Air Force Communications Group at Osan AB, Korea; 90th Strategic Missile Wing at F.E. Warren AFB, WY; and 164th Airlift Wing for Tennessee ANG. Favorite assignment was Korea. “Never take freedom for granted.” Proud to have served her country.

Ken P.—Navy

Cybersecurity Analyst, Dayton

Ken spent six years of service in the Navy and ranked as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class (E-4). Initial inspiration was his grandfather’s Marine Corps service during the Vietnam War. Ken served out of Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville. Working as a supervisor within the blood bank was incredibly rewarding—not to mention a huge responsibility (handling blood transfusions!). Professional experience in systems administration and cybersecurity stems from focusing on lab portions of electronic medical record. Transferred cyber work skills to Woolpert projects.

Pete L.—Army

Engineering Technician, Chesapeake

Drafted into the Army in 1972, inspired to continue serving. Was ranked as First Sergeant for three years, retired as Master Sergeant. Spent two years active duty in Vietnam and 26 years in Virginia Army National Guard. Total of five deployments during his service: California, Virginia, Mississippi, Germany and Egypt. Favorite assignments were in other countries. Skills polished in the military transportation field that help his work at Woolpert include controlling containerized cargo into and out of Europe. Thankful to have served the country and have such supportive friends, family and employees.

Mark B.—Navy

Engineer Designer, Illinois Telecommuter

Mark was born in England to a military family—his father an Air Force veteran and his aunt and uncle also served. This, along with wanting a break from school, laid the groundwork for his call to serve. A Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4) in the Navy, he recalls going underway on submarines being “totally awesome.” There, he was a nuclear machinist mate. With no overseas assignments, his service took place at Norfolk, VA; and on the USS Albany (SSN 753) and USS Emory S Land (AS-39).

Gil I.—Army

Engineer, California Telecommuter

Gil served in the Army, a Captain (O-3) rank. Six years and two deployments. Spent time overseas in South Korea and Panama; stateside service at Monterey, CA; and Lawton, OK. The military job that refined his life and work skills: indirect fire support for light infantry. Most proud of the soldiers he served with.

Karen H.—Air Force

On-Site Geospatial Specialist, South Carolina

Air Force Master Sergeant (E-7) veteran Karen proudly served for two decades. Ten different deployments took her all over the world. Overseas assignments to Ramstein AB, Germany; Misawa AB, Japan; Andersen AFB, Guam (twice); RAF Croughton, United Kingdom; and Daegu AB, Republic of Korea. U.S. assignments were at Langley AFB, VA; and Shaw AFB, SC. Loved Japan’s friendly atmosphere, amazing cities, beautiful mountains and wonderful culture. As an 3E5X1 Engineering Craftsman, did construction surveillance, CAD drafting, surveying and GIS work. Enjoyed it so much she earned her master’s in GIS before landing at Woolpert.

Doug B.—Air Force

Military Practice Leader, Fairview Heights

Eight years of Air Force service, rank Captain. Deployed to Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Though never assigned overseas (stationed at Luke AFB, AZ; Hill AFB, UT; and Scott AFB, IL), military brat visited multiple countries. Primary inspiration: father’s 26 years as Army engineer officer. Favorite assignment was in Utah as Chief of Structural Repair within the Civil Engineer Squadron. Skiing, hiking and mountain biking weren’t bad either. Appreciates that his Woolpert job supports the military through high-impact projects around the world.

Tom R.—Army

Survey Tech, Denver

Tom’s military desires were born of a long family line of veterans and loss of his uncle on 9/11. In the Army, his rank was a Staff Sergeant (E-6), and as a Technical Engineer (MOS 12T), he began his surveying career. During 12 years of service, one deployment took him to Iraq—which he attributes as the best part of serving. Every mission was meaningful and exciting. For instance, a three-mile traverse to a Saddam Hussein palace rooftop to position radar for tracking incoming fire. Eleven more years spent in Ohio with the National Guard transforming a WWII-era supply depot into a modern training camp.

Mike Z.—Army

Engineer Project Manager, Florida Telecommuter

Proud to serve his country and grateful the experience introduced him to his best friends. Former Army Corporal served two years of active duty and six years in the Reserves. Finishing his duty in ’89 before the first Iraq war, Mike did not have any deployments. Fort Benning, GA, and Fort Hood, TX, were his sites of service. The “Never give up!” infantry attitude now translates into everyday life and work.

Calvin G.—Army

Geospatial Specialist, Texas Telecommuter

Inspired to serve in the Army by his father—an Army and Navy veteran. After basic training in the Missouri Ozarks at Fort Leonard Wood and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, SC, Calvin was ready for duty. Two years of service at Fort Sill, OK, two years in Vicenza, Italy. Experience of a lifetime: proximity to Verona, Venice, Milan and Florence. Calvin enjoys helping Woolpert connect veterans in the company. Learns a lot from such great people!

Ed C.—Army

Geospatial Program Director, Texas Telecommuter

Army Corporal veteran Ed is proud to have served with people who care for the U.S. Joined Army National Guard to find direction in his college years. Served for six years out of Ellington AFB, TX, supporting the 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, TX. Favorite assignment? Traveling from Guam to the Australian Outback, arriving via airborne jump. Learned the value of maps, terrain, information and trusting your group’s expertise—especially applicable when parachuting out of planes at night with the Infantry Airborne Long-Range Surveillance unit.

Rebecca K.—Air Force

Engineer Project Manager, Dayton

Rebecca, ROTC member turned Air Force Captain (O-3), served 10 years, active duty only. In 2003, deployed to Qatar, and in 2007, Iraq. Assignments took her everywhere from Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, to Kunsan AB, South Korea, to RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom. Her UK time was her favorite—her soul felt at home there. Civil engineering Air Force Specialty Code perfectly aligned with Woolpert project manager role. Skills up Rebecca’s sleeve: problem solving, coordinating personnel and understanding military client lingo. Thankful for Woolpert’s military connections.

Rob K.—Navy

Engineer Designer, Indianapolis

Admiration of Navy dad and Navy friends combined with love of submarine movies led Rob to more than 20 years of service: over eight active duty Navy and over 12 in the Indiana National Guard. His rank: Sergeant (E-5). After Orlando bootcamp, assignments took him overseas to Kuwait and Al Qayyarah, Iraq. Navy deployments included six strategic deterrent patrols on the ballistic missile submarine, the USS Pennsylvania. With Indiana National Guard, activated for Hurricane Katrina assistance and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Submarine construction peaked his engineering interest and led to a civil engineering degree.

Maple, Libby and Jen K.

Market Director, Telecommuter

Maple—named for Canada (Jen’s birth country) and Libby—short for Liberty (Jen’s U.S. home). Always happy to see their owner, these patriotic pups have a special talent: barking…all the time. Beagle mix Maple’s a sleepy lone wolf. Active and fun-spirited—that’s Libby, the Red Heeler. Both take after Mom.

Rev and Zach S.

Geospatial Project Manager, Denver

Certified mutt and shelter rescue, Rev’s the cutest of work interruptions. Not one to be ignored, outspoken pooch keeps Zach’s mute button engaged. Would thrive on Woolpert’s MarCom team. Zach’s takeaway from dog ownership—feeling each other’s pain. Between these two, compassion is not lacking!

Bailey and Jennifer B.

Chief Marketing Officer, Dayton

Dinner plans at Jennifer’s? Might want to practice Bailey’s favorite game, “Keep Away,” or you’ll leave hungry. Rescued Plott Hound would make a great business developer—no problem going in for “the ask.” Jennifer’s tenacious running buddy loves car rides and the Amazon delivery guy (don’t worry, he’s getting a nice gift this Christmas).

Kobe and Shanda M.

Chief HR Officer, Dayton

Did someone say bacon? Teddy bear Kobe’s ready for a snack. Geospatial specialist-in-training with expertise in sniffing and mapping terrain. But basketball’s this toe-biter’s true calling (obviously). Loyalty and support unmatched, a perfect pick-me-up when Shanda’s working from home.

Buckeye and Lindsey K.

Engineering Phase Manager, Dayton

Beagle mix Buckeye throws shade at Mom: “Do you wear ever wear real pants?” C’mon, who does anymore? Handy home helper announces Amazon deliveries and guest stars on video calls. Caught in action gently nabbing a toy from atop Lindsey’s 9-month-old daughter’s head.

Seymour and Penny H.

Business Administrative Assistant, Dayton

Smell/look bad? Seymour could care less—he’s just happy to see you. Offers unconditional affection to his adopter, Penny. She also knows a thing or two about selfless love. In her perfect world, dogs would outlive humans. At first snowfall, Little Dude zips up his winter jacket. No costumes, though. However, there might just be an old hotdog outfit in the back of the closet…

Honey and Mike T.

Engineer Project Manager, Cincinnati

Honey’s never taken Mike to the office—but she runs a tight ship at his WFH space. Shared owner/yellow Lab personality trait? Both are crazy when the mood strikes. “Daddy’s little girl” delights in toy time. If Mike were a dog, he’d be a yellow Lab, too—all loveable and loyal.

Janeway and Matt E.

Geospatial Technician, Telecommuter

Janeway “Shark” loves giving puppy bites (Matt’s got chewy fingers). But not allowed to eat goose droppings—a mystery she still can’t solve. This Daschund/black Lab mix’s lesson of the day? Puppies are hard work, but well worth it. Need help improving your flexibility? Janeway’s famous for “reminding” you stretch your legs.

Finn and Mark H.

Architectural Technician, Virginia Beach

10 years ago, when Mark’s late partner Jason wanted a dog to “look cute walking down the street with,” Finn came into the picture. Opens doors on his own. Impressive! Oh—did I mention this Italian Greyhound is also blind? Strong and resilient, tug-of-war is Finn’s top-choice game. Sweaters are a no, but following dad around is a yes—he never lets Mark out of his “sight.”

Jaxon and Madison F.

Marketing Specialist, Dayton

Jaxon, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. What a king he is—or maybe CSO (chief snuggle officer). Named after “Sons of Anarchy” character, Jax. No bed? No problem. Sleep anywhere, anytime. Vacuum enemy/Maddie ally. Keeps her lap warm and mind hard at work.

Stella and Lauren P.

Geospatial Team Leader, Telecommuter

One fateful 16-hour Florida-to-Michigan road trip led to Little Honey Badger. #WorthIt. Not one, not two, but THREE tennis balls fit into Stella’s mouth. What a chomper! Also loves to stuff that mouth with fish and sweet potatoes. Nudges Lauren’s typing hand when it’s break time. Sports matching FSU jerseys with mom—it’s game time.

Rocky and Laura B.

IM Phase Manager, Telecommuter

Laura’s rescued American Foxhound mix became a best friend who fantasizes about eating roasted beets. Always up for anything—hiking, meeting new people, binging Netflix, tailgating, going to breweries. Captain Rocky loves kayaking but gets distracted with diving after anchored buoys. Whatever floats his boat.

Albus and Jeremy Q.

Field Sales Rep, Telecommuter

Clocks rendered obsolete in Jeremy’s home don’t stop Albus from knowing when it’s quitting time. Oh, it’s 5:30 p.m.? Albus already knows, which means Jeremy knows, too. Standard Labradoodle takes extraordinary delight in spaghetti and meatballs. If napping was a talent, Albus would be the best—must be tired from a summer of hiking. Life lesson from Albus: Dogs will be there for you no matter what.

Nora and Jen S.

Geospatial Project Manager, Cincinnati

Trait linking this sheepdog/Poodle mix and owner? Propensity toward goofiness. Doggy snuggles brighten even the rainiest of days. Nothing gets in Nora’s way—jumping obstacles is a favorite game. And frisbee—always down to play frisbee. A joy to be around, this Dolly Parton super fan works “9 to 5.”

Testing

Ellie and Erin E.

Marketing Writer, Dayton

Yep, that’s a lot of Es. “Deathmaster 5000” hunts backyard squirrels and displays her trophies in Mom’s garden. At Woolpert, Ellie would slay roles with low utilization goals (is lazy in the job description?). Partners in stride, Erin and Ellie dig their daily walks to visit with the horses behind their house. And don’t forget naps. ALL the naps.

Samson, Willie, Ruby and Doug D.

Office Manager, Portland

Doug travels in a large pack with unwavering loyalty—Samson the black Lab, Willie the black Pug and Ruby the French Bulldog. Trio of exuberant, welcoming and intrepid canines rise with the sun. Amid the pandemic, frisbee partners, popcorn pals and super snugglers keep a consistent routine. Did a few Woolpert positions open up? Samson the land surveyor, Willie the HR specialist and Ruby the program manager reporting for duty!

Oreo and Sheldon M.

Geospatial Project Manager, Telecommuter

Oreo’s a Beagle/Jack Russell mix, NOT a chocolate/vanilla cookie (but just as sweet). Supplier of perfect high fives. CEO of cuteness and future Woolpert paw-ject manager. Spied gathering intel from Sheldon’s meetings. What is Oreo most grateful for? An adventure-filled life—thanks to Sheldon’s hard work while he naps the day away.

Bentley and Steve S.

Engineering Designer, Dayton

Steve saw fireworks when he got Bentley—literally. That 4th of July, a new friendship exploded. Favorite shared activity? Trail running and swimming at Caesar Creek. This Golden Retriever doesn’t let Steve work too hard, calling a break at snack time. Bentley’s ideal dinner? Cardboard box appetizer, entrée of anything but fruits and veggies, and for dessert—licking Steve’s plate.

Brutus and Clare L.

Engineering Designer, Dayton

Clare’s work-from-home buddy—rescued Boxer Brutus. Lucky dog! Loves camping with his family and catching crumbs from s’mores (second only to fatty scraps from smoked brisket). Sitting in baby swings, eating pacifiers, laying on the play mat—these earned Brutus the title of “Big Baby.” Clumsy yet graceful, works AND plays hard. If Clare were a dog, she’d be a Boxer too.

Chief, Bailey and Christine W.

Engineer, Chesapeake

Meet Bailey, the 10-year-old yet young-at-heart Plott Hound, and Chief, the nearly two-year-old Golden Retriever (yes, she knows she’s cute). Christine adopted Bailey from where she volunteered as a dog-walker. Boundlessly loving crew. Difficulty facing dog owners? Ask the chewed up TV remotes. Bailey’s observation skills would land her a job as a Woolpert surveyor, and Chief’s general chaos could channel into hole digging.

Kenobi and Angela P.

Marketing Specialist, Dayton

Goldendoodle Kenobi, Angela’s forever dog. Lives with a new, loving family after her son developed a dog allergy. Devoured an entire rotisserie chicken and licked his face amidst reprimanding…classic Kenobi moment. 80-pound people-sitter holds back no affection. Reward of dog ownership? Realizing how much love she can give to another living being (besides her kids, of course).

Anna G.

Business Strategist, Dayton

Business analyst/secret princess Anna enjoys watching the seeds of idea grow. Finds inspiration in the rally to celebrate community and cautions against underestimating casual conversation’s power to spawn understanding and creativity. She would gladly outlaw chewing gum, especially on adventure-seeking trips with friends (Palm Beach was low-key chill). Hopeful sunglass reviewer recently donated a kidney to her sister and spent her recuperation binge-watching “Cheers.”

Christelle F.

Survey Operations Manager, Johannesburg, South Africa

Anticipation, excitement, mind-blowing innovation. The meeting of industry-leading minds. Working with an incredible crew. Just a few reasons Christelle loves geospatial. Her job: ensuring the right planes are at the right places with the right machines gathering the right data. Proud her company empowers women in the workplace (and does so miles ahead of most). Favorite advice: “…I know that there is, in theory, a glass ceiling. But I don’t believe that it’s a solid wall. I’m going through it…” Debbi Fields (Mrs. Field’s Cookies)

Jami B.

Architectural Designer, Atlanta

San Diego roots now planted in Atlanta, Jami draws amazing buildings into existence. Has been heard shushing her screaming cat during WFH conference calls. Ideal retirement? Tasting her way around the world—a solo birthday trip to Chicago gave her the perfect head start. And seriously, who can resist midnight snacks? Advocates proper trash disposal (don’t litter when the trashcan is two feet away!) and dreams of mentoring young girls who’ve never been told they can be architects or engineers.

Nadja T.

Environmental Engineer/R&D Facilitator, Dayton

“I feel the need…the need for speed!” Adorer of the Navy-focused “Top Gun” eventually opted for the Air Force. Inspired by women she works with on the daily (plane lovers have a sense of service). What challenges Nadja? Breaking through the status quo—different can be better! Her message to young engineering women: We need your energy, talent and creativity. We need YOU!

Shane I.

Chief Strategy Officer, Dayton

Native Daytonian with an adventurous spirit thinks outside the box to solve clients’ problems. As a kid, Shane dreamed of becoming an astronaut. Overcame dyslexia to prove he doesn’t believe in impossibility. #RetirementGoals: Traveling with family and working to end human trafficking. Digs Shawshank Redemption virtual meeting backgrounds and proudly sports University of Dayton and The Ohio State University getups. Most embarrassing moment? Attempting to bribe Paul Newman with $50. Just buy the salad dressing, already!

Todd F.

Civil Engineer, Cincinnati

Touchdown! Would-be football coach loves traveling to watch sporting events (have you seen South Bend on a Saturday in the fall?) and is not fond of wasting time. Short and simple is the name of the game. A favorite project was working with his alma mater to create a state-of-the-art facility. Go Hillsboro High! Besides missing coworkers, recent work trouble has come in the form of watching out for toys on his morning commute to the basement. Inspiration? Sees it all around as people embrace extra time with loved ones.

Yury T.

Application Developer, Indianapolis

Stress-hating, volleyball-playing Russian immigrant went from hotel housekeeping/dishwashing to developing a snow-plow tracking application for the Indianapolis Department of Public Works. Yuri moved to the U.S. in 2006 and claims to have no outstanding utility bills despite having 20 roommates over a three-year period. Inspiration in life? Family. His two children won’t let him sit still. Pays them back with free lessons in Russian. Devours pelmeni (Russian dumplings) and looks forward to visiting Germany to sample the meat—and of course, das Bier.

Dominik M.

Application Developer, Denver

Grab the popcorn, Dominik is ready to binge watch his favorite shows—Ozark, The Crown, Jessica Jones, Wu Assassins… the list goes on. Born in Varaždin, Croatia, he’s a musically talented cyclist and cook with a contagious positive outlook. In fact, despite crossing paths with a bike thief on a trip to Moab, still counts it as his best vacation. First and favorite project: the Honolulu Board of Water Supply. (How could it not be when Hawaii and fellow Woolpie Scott Cattran was involved?)

John B.

Aviation Design PM, Indianapolis

Woolpert lifer and aviation designer. When not designing large runway projects, John’s a good sport about getting makeovers from his four daughters. Speaking of sports, he’s a passionate fan and dreams of visiting every NFL stadium. (Every one?)

Digs playing guitar and singing at church and weddings. Luxury item for a deserted island? A boat to get off said island, naturally! Such an engineer…

Jake S.

Human Resources Business Partner, Dayton

This Jake has never worked at State Farm, but he has interned at the White House—and met President Obama. Enjoys his current HR gig of solving people problems and protecting a positive workplace culture.

Rumored to look a bit like Tom Cruise, would prefer a 1970s Al Pacino play him in a biopic. 3-year-old son takes him hiking and provides an excuse to binge-watch Disney+. Never followed through on a New Year’s resolution (join the club), but dreams of managing a pro baseball team—GO REDS.

Melissa M.

Geospatial Tech, Denver

Melissa’s a lidar specialist with an alter ego: 1990s music trivia savant with penchants for The Lord of the Rings and rap music. Turned her interest in flying into an aerial imaging career. An unlikely foodie who’s sampled both grass and shampoo. Deemed both “edible,” yet prefers sour beer. Lives to ride bikes and explore nature with her son. One of her coolest projects—a time-essential mission for FEMA after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico.

Gil I.

Water Resources Engineer, Telecommuter

Gil’s been with Woolpert for 22 years. (Yes, he started at 5 years old.) Loves applying his GIS expertise to water management challenges. Even has engineering software named after him.

Connoisseur of wine, racer of bicycles. Rides 10 different bikes—and a Harley.

Christine G.

Proposal Manager, Denver

After her mother’s death in 2009, Christine took a hard look at living versus feeling alive. How does she embody that now? Helping others realize their greatness. And of course, kitchen dance-offs and random acts of kindness (obviously). Christine’s never turned down a party-hosting opportunity.

Fave quote: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid.” Well said, Mr. Einstein.

Julie P.

Senior Proposal Manager, Dayton

Julie helps Woolpert land (ha ha) new aviation work. Strives to create engaging methods for presenting tech info to clients. Maintains an unexpected plethora of aviation knowledge—she’ll never look at airports the same way again.

Carla M.

Water PM, Atlanta

Brag-worthy adventure? African safari. Next passport stamp? Italy, for a Tuscan culinary tour. In the midst of COVID-19, making due with local takeout and trips to her personal wine stash. Former Baskin-Robbins ice cream scooper and high school arm wrestling champion, Carla grew up to be a “water cat herder” (aka water project manager). Digs fitness, reading about quantum physics and authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Enjoys collaborating with clients and team members to remedy everyday challenges.

Keith J.

Geospatial Tech, Denver

Keith didn’t love being a bike messenger or giving Disney tours, but he does love working with maps. Learned perseverance and emotions from his parents—and taught himself the value of hard work. This energy drink aficionado sports a praying mantis tattoo and tells a scary story involving a Ferris wheel and a pocket knife (hint, the two don’t mix).

Kevin P.

IT Infrastructure and Applications Group Manager, Dayton

Who doesn’t wear a kilt to an Irish festival?

Kevin’s an Ohio State University alum with an Irish wife and passion for technology. Natural-born puzzler who hates the misconception that IT’s only job is to fix PCs.

Thrives on the controlled chaos of IT and loves his Woolpert family (of course, his real family, too). Big fan of weekend getaways—the beach is a great place to NOT make decisions.

Jeff P.

ITMC Project Manager, Cleveland

IRONMAN® finisher, technology project manager, sailor, weekend carpenter, dad. Jeff is all about managing assets, both at work and in his free time. Hates paperwork, loves pizza and cold beer, in that order. “Unwinds” by taking his young daughter swimming and biking. He learned how to drive stick on a flatbed truck while working at a lumber yard in high school. Began speaking Spanish shortly after inadvertently riding with a “coyote” during a hitchhiking trip through Honduras and El Salvador.

Jen S.

Geospatial Project Coordinator, Cincinnati

Jen’s the real deal. Extreme extrovert adores her coworkers and their kids’ video conference bombs, but misses in-person interaction. Volunteers regularly and is helping coordinate a professional clothing drive. Gets a kick out of her pets (they love her current work-from-home status). When not social distancing, you’re most likely to find this former UC lacrosse player kayaking or hitting early-morning Orange Theory sessions. Late night (okay, anytime) snack? Sliced pepperoni and shredded cheese—straight from the bag, baby.

Josh S.

Senior Graphic Designer, Dayton

Doesn’t get the COVID-19 run on canned green beans, but does like local teddy bear hunts for kids. Has a webcam—has yet to turn it on. Loves that his designs impact how people perceive Woolpert. Inspired by German Bauhaus movement (go ahead, look it up), Andy Warhol and pop music. Once owned a cupcake shop (oreo cupcakes = to die for) and terrified people as a zombie @ an amusement park.

Zach S.

Geospatial PM and UAS Pilot, Denver

Juggles a love/hate relationship with his newest coworker—his dog. Video chats with family and friends more than ever and reminisces about the “Lord of the Wings” chicken wing-eating contest he organized while studying @ Florida State. Forget Starbucks—Zach’s first job was high school intern for a financial advisor. Managed teachers’ 401K accounts and discovered a strong disdain for desk jobs. Revelation for Zach, opportunity for Woolpert—he now flies drones and speaks at UAS conferences across the country.

Doug G.

Energy Project Manager, Toledo

This self-described grillmaster manages GPS data collection projects for utility clients. Enjoys coordinating resources, as long as they are on time. Loves watching re-runs of the “The Office” and sampling craft beer. Often at the same time. Outwardly reserved, Doug grows a big voice when it comes to Ohio State sports (or, rather, The Ohio State University).

Laura F.

Applications Specialist, Orlando

Earned dubious distinction of “Lazy Queen” for skill in automating repetitive technical tasks. This 11-year Woolpie digs her Help Desk job, especially teaching users how to solve problems on their own. Biggest professional achievement? Breaking into an unfamiliar industry—way out of her comfort zone. Theme park junkie (Universal Studios takes 1st) with 10 years under her belt as a carnival worker (popcorn, please!). Adores her grandbabies, too. This Chicago native loves the Florida weather and the animals…especially the 5-foot-long neighborhood gator.

Frank M.

Structural Engineer, Dayton

This first-generation American with deep Sicilian roots grew up in the construction business. He draws the “skeletons that make buildings stand up” and loves watching them come to life. Has a glass-is-half-full attitude and is always looking for a win-win. Wants to someday host an Emeril-style Italian cooking show, complete with live audience. Favorite fare? Mama Monastra’s homemade manicotti. Loves running and taking his daughters to local farmers’ markets. Most valuable life lesson: truly go out of your way to help others (and boy, does he practice what he preaches).

Crystal C.

Quality Control Manager, Dayton

Grade school highlight: geography class. Makes her living today creating maps—young Crystal would be so proud. Was the only woman in her department for years, but now is one of many. Crystal’s witnessed more than two decades of evolution in the geospatial industry AND Woolpert.

Certifications: CP, GISP, PMP, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
Associations: ASQ, GISCI, PMI, CAAO, OGRIP

Qassim A.

Chief Scientist, Arlington

Mapmaker, scientist, drone pilot, professor—Qassim wears a lot of hats. And sports a mile-long CV. Newest venture: helping his wife sew cloth face masks for D.C. hospital staff battling the pandemic. These days, he’s taking more time to appreciate loved ones. Favorite thing about working @ Woolpert? “Unleashed freedom to think, create and grow professionally.” He’s driven yet adorably humble. Yes, we went there.

Latice S.

Proposal Manager, Telecommuter

Can connecting with people be a passion? That’s a yes. “And it’s a passion best exercised through travel.” Vacation 24/7? That would be sweet. But with travel on hold due to COVID-19, Latice finds inspiration in community and coworkers’ resilience. And distraction in binge-watching Tiger King. Whether exploring different cultures or crafting swanky proposals, this childhood magician and aspiring magazine editor encourages her young daughter to think variety. Business? Sure. Magic? If it’s in the cards.

Roxanne S.

Learning and Development Coach, HR Business Partner, Dayton

From developing Woolpert University to working with addicts in a prison ministry, Roxanne helps people help themselves. Obsessive about her daughter, salsa dancing and pizza (only food she’ll get gluten-sick for). Born in Italy (Army brat) but has called seven Dayton suburbs home. Most embarrassing moment? Choking on a bug during a live audio presentation.

Most beautiful yet frightening travel destination? Columbia, South America. Almost as frightening—Roxanne’s reaction to people crunching ice. Bucket list: finishing her private pilot training and licensure.

Nathan H.

Engineering PM, Stennis

Dr. Nate—data science and R&D whiz. Bourbon and golf enthusiast. Will be placing a putter in his son’s hands as soon as he can hold it. This Tennessee Volunteer super fan with a passion for travel and cooking is known for riding on Mardi Gras floats (don’t ask).
“Go Vols!”

Aaron L.

Project Director, Roads & Bridges, Dayton

Has been anonymously replacing tattered American flags since the pandemic. Stays positive by taking in more sunshine and fresh air than news. Aaron’s been making maps @ Woolpert for 16 years. High-tech maps, to be precise, often from aerial and drone photos. And boy is he good at it. He’s a big change agent and loves Woolpert-izing technologies like UAS. When not making maps, Aaron can be found fishing with his father in Michigan’s U.P. Biggest fish—a whopping 22lb rainbow trout. Biggest compliment from a client? His no-BS attitude.

Richard W.

Water PM, Atlanta

A Project Manager for the water market, Richard manages close to $4M a year in sanitary programs. His current challenge is integrating Woolpert’s water services into the aviation market. Been with Woolpert 12 proud years. And he’s a new opportunity junkie on both the work and personal sides. His upcoming wish-list trip may involve a certain island in Greece. Santorini, please!

Bobby S.

Architect, Chesapeake

Like so many, Bobby’s having trouble finding bread, milk and meat at the grocery. But he’s making the most of his work-from-home set-up—it’s so quiet, he doesn’t need headphones. Bobby’s creativity never sleeps—architectural drawings by day, oil paintings by night. Enjoys the techy side of his craft and discovering new methods, yet completely addicted to routine. When he’s not selling some of his more than 75 oil paintings (mostly of abstract trees), he’s cruising with his wife in his two Mustangs. Digs participating in charity efforts and regularly donates art for auctions.

Jeremy Q.

Google Account Exec, Dayton

During COVID-19, discovered unexpected joy in butter and his wife’s “work voice.” Laid-back Minnesotan recommends wearing real pants (aka no elastic) to keep motivated while WFH. Self-described “Google evangelist,” Jeremy was born a salesman. Woolpert claim to fame: helping his team win Google Maps Partner of the Year. High school curler (ice, not hair) and avid collector of vinyl records. Prizes his Mars Volta LP and all things tiki, but HATES Norwegian lutefisk, aka fish jello (obviously).

Holly S.

Marketing Manager, Columbus

Holly clarifies and accelerates her groups’ marketing efforts without breaking a sweat. She’s known for challenging the norm—and stealing chocolate from co-workers. Crazy for horses, too (she used to show them and still rides trails), ever since watching Secretariat win the Triple Crown.

Favorite Woolpert success? UAS work @ the Savannah airport. “It was a marketer’s dream to bring to life all that they’re doing with that technology.” Pet peeve? “People who phone it in; you know, don’t do their best.”

Ben B.

Creative Team Lead, Dayton

Hand-drawn, animated, live-action film. Ben tells stories through pictures. Loves managing his graphic design team almost as much as playing bike polo (yup, it’s a thing). After spending 2 ½ years in Croatia with his wife, hasn’t had a single vacation compare. Digs Legos® and tabletop games. Dreams of retiring as a fisherman painter on the Adriatic Sea.

Favorite project? Filming lidar flights along Alaska’s coastline. “24-hour sunlight is cool—until it isn’t.”

Loves that her work with NOAA lets her take trips to the coast. Megan supports the strong and growing voice of women in the industry. Best work location? Definitely Hawaii—diverse terrain, gorgeous bathy…and oh, the sites!

Deb S.

Senior Water Resources Engineer, Columbia SC

Deb loves the natural world, an appreciation nurtured on visits to his grandfather’s farm in rural India. Understandable, when seed sowing and river swimming created an appetite for ripe mangoes (you bet he climbed the mango tree for those). Free time often involves hiking with family or helping friends with Indian and U.S. nonprofit work. Close second choices—painting, writing poetry and experimenting in the kitchen. Passionate about reducing human impact on the environment and dreams of solo adventures to spiritual sites in his home country.

Great Place to Work®

2015-2021

If you can’t tell, Woolpert’s people are pretty awesome. Passionate about work and life, our people are as varied as our projects. Together, we drive our company and our world.

Say hello to some of the many faces of Woolpert.
