Woolpert Helps Joshua’s Great Things Fight Pediatric Brain Cancer

Brain tumors are the second-most common form of cancer in children.
In 2003, two-month-old Joshua Brown was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After enduring chemotherapy as an infant, he lived in partial remission of the cancer for nearly seven years.
Fast forward to 2012, when Joshua’s cancer returned in a more aggressive form. During Joshua’s battle with cancer, his parents, Doug and Rhonda Brown, recalled how every night before bed, Joshua would say “God will do great things in me.”
Tragically, Joshua passed away on June 2, 2013.
Shortly after their son’s death, Doug (a Woolpert employee) and Rhonda created the Joshua’s Great Things foundation. The foundation’s main goals are to fund research toward curing pediatric brain tumors as well as provide support to affected families.
As part of Woolpert’s commitment to supporting its employees, the firm has partnered with Joshua’s Great Things to hold fundraisers. The 2018 Society of American Military Engineers Joint Engineer Training Conference (SAME JETC), held in Kansas City, Mo., provided the perfect opportunity for an additional fundraising effort.
Woolpert’s military market hosted a client entertainment event during the conference. Inspiration struck during the planning stages, and we invited Joshua’s Great Things to participate in the event.
By providing Doug and Rhonda’s foundation with a platform to educate event-goers about pediatric brain cancer, the team raised awareness and received many generous donations. From designing pre-event communications and event signage to providing a welcome table at the event entrance and donating reminder bracelets for supporters, Woolpert ensured that Joshua’s Great Things had all the tools needed to impact those who attended.
Joshua’s Great Things raised $4,000 at the conference event. Woolpert also made a matching contribution, bringing the total funds raised to $8,000 in a single evening. Joshua’s Great Things has already invested these donations into research and family support services.
