Can the New ASPRS Accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data Be Applied to UAS?
Woolpert Chief Scientist Qassim Abdullah’s March 2020 Mapping Matters column, published in the Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing (PE&RS), he answers questions about whether accuracy standards for geospatial data can be applied to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
In a response to a reader’s question from St. Petersburg, Russia, Abdullah addressed a timely issue concerning users and producers of UAS. The mapping industry is struggling in finding a way to evaluate the accuracy of products from UAS. Abdullah made clear that the new ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data are designed to suit current and future technologies, including UAS, and can be used to evaluate and express UAS products accurately.
PE&RS is the official journal of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).
