Woolpert designed the Carolina Field of Honor, a veterans’ memorial officially dedicated on Memorial Day, 2014, to serve as a worthy tribute to the fallen servicemen and women of our armed forces. The memorial is the centerpiece of Triad Park in Kernersville, North Carolina, located on the borders of Forsyth and Guilford Counties in the state’s Piedmont Triad region.

The memorial serves approximately 150,000 veterans living in the region.

The War Memorial Foundation selected Woolpert as the designer on record for the Carolina Field of Honor, a veterans’ memorial officially dedicated on Memorial Day, 2014. The centerpiece of Triad Park, the memorial provides a poignant and uplifting place to commemorate the lives of those lost in defense of our nation’s freedom.

Woolpert has provided design services at Triad Park for more than 20 years.

Woolpert’s design features a 60-foot granite obelisk and five granite monuments, each honoring one branch of the military. Additional monument components include a fountain and reflecting pool, flag walk, memorial wall naming veterans and sponsors, and a portion of steel beam from the World Trade Center tragedy. The finest materials were used in the memorial’s construction, including granite sourced from the same Mount Airy, North Carolina, site as that used at the National World War II Memorial in Washington.

The $5-million project was financed through a fund-raising campaign, of which Woolpert was a proud donor. Woolpert is currently working on the next phase of the project, which includes construction of an additional shelter, restroom facilities and an amphitheater structure. The firm was named a Special Projects (Recreational Facilities) Engineering Excellence award winner by the North Carolina chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
