When we developed the design layouts for the terminal support areas, we emphasized flexibility for minimizing expenses, protecting utility corridors and conserving real estate for future build-out. We also considered the aesthetic impact from various public viewpoints to minimize the potential for human navigation errors and separate access to secured and public areas. We focused on present and future security considerations, including IAA, FAA and TSA requirements.

We coordinated with the IAA throughout the design and construction work on Taxiway “M”, the terminal apron and northeast cargo apron. We completed much of the construction work at night during low aircraft traffic periods to minimize the impact of construction on the airlines.

Because of numerous changes to the new terminal design, we revised the airside storm sewer main design to incorporate modifications to the proposed apron grades, drainage patterns and apron limits.

We analyzed the existing pavement condition and traffic for current and future Midfield aircraft fleets and developed recommendations and contract documentation for repairing the pavement.

Woolpert provided an initial design study to size, locate and orient a new ground run-up enclosure using the latest technology to reduce aircraft engine testing noise. We also provided design bidding and construction administration services for the project, which was selected by the Indiana Chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association to receive the 2001 Concrete Pavement Award.
