Mission Bay Condition Surveying

Mission Bay is a human-made saltwater bay consisting of 27 miles of shoreline, with 15 million people visiting the park annually. Recreational boats, storms, and currents had pushed sediment above the survey elevation for safe boater navigation. As a result, the bay needed to be dredged. Woolpert conducted daily conditional surveys during dredge operations. The dredged material was used to fill other areas that needed re-nourishment within the bay. Since the area is home to large populations of eel grass that were dredged, Woolpert also conducted eel grass surveys to show the change in vegetation, since it has a large environmental impact on the area. The eel grass populations were monitored and restored after dredge and re-nourishment efforts were complete.
