Hydrographic and Terrestrial Surveys for Industrial Plywood Mill Reclamation

The industrial plywood mill in Anacortes has been repurposed into a public-use wetlands recreation area, created by the Custom Plywood Sites Phase II Interim Redial Action Project. Woolpert performed high-resolution hydrographic and terrestrial surveys for pre-construction information and post-construction as-built conditions. The pre-construction data proved valuable for removing hundreds of pilings and other abandoned structures, and the bathymetric conditions was used for the pre-dredge surface. The hydrographic surveys were conducted using real-time kinematic GNSS positioning for accurate horizontal and vertical positioning. The pre-construction survey showed the existing bottom conditions in high resolution and all the submerged structures that could not be accounted for using traditional topographic techniques.
