Woolpert, working with Balfour Beatty Construction and KZF, provided a full range of architecture, engineering and surveying services for multiple renovation and construction projects at Fort Jackson.
For Starship Barrack 11000, the initial training dormitory/barracks, Woolpert led efforts for the following project components:
- Conversion of existing first-floor dining facilities to additional training classrooms
- Renovation of existing classrooms
- Expansion and renovation of existing administration areas
- Design and construction of a running track and fixed exercise area on an adjacent site
For the Starship quad dining facility and training dormitory/barracks, Woolpert designed plans for the following projects:
- Construction of two, 2,600-soldier dining facilities encompassing 124,780 square feet
- Renovation and expansion of three starship barracks buildings into 250,000 square feet of classroom and battalion support space
- Installation of a new 115-8 kV electrical substation
Woolpert’s designs qualified the facilities to earn LEED™ Silver certification under the U.S. Green Building Council standards. Woolpert used building information modeling (BIM), building energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis to drive cost-effective, constructible and efficient design decisions.
