Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex
Ridgeland Common began as an outdoor ice rink a century ago.
Recreation Complex
Ice Arena, Pool, and Play Fields
A 50-meter pool, regulation-size ice rink, and two baseball fields fit onto the six-acre site through efficient planning and the reuse of existing foundation systems. The building achieved LEED® Gold certification, which is a difficult challenge given the project’s unusual pool and ice rink energy needs.
The renovation and expansion preserve the original rink’s wood roof structure for its lodge-like character, which is extended into a new lobby that enables passersby to view skaters. The ice arena joins the outdoor play fields and swimming pool and its respective facades are designed to reflect those activities.
The center is the flagship facility for the Park District of Oak Park.
