With a goal of becoming one of the top five small public liberal arts universities in the nation, the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS) recognized a growing need for a campus center that provides students with recreation and athletic facilities. In association with Moody Nolan, Woolpert helped provide programming, architecture, engineering and interior design services for the state-of-the-art Recreation and Athletic Center (TRAC) on the campus.

Located on the campus quadrangle, the new facility invites students to pass through the building and overlook athletics and other activities without disrupting the functional spaces.

The multi-functional performance facility shares courts between recreation and varsity sports and includes a 3,000-seat gymnasium that can expand to a 4,000-seat performance arena.

TRAC is a $16.2 million, 72,000 square foot facility that provides recreation, fitness and indoor athletic event space at UIS.
