The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) Terminal 3 Consolidation/Concourse A Reactivation program was initiated to consolidate operations after an airline hub vacated Concourse A. Accelerated design and construction schedules were employed to meet the 11-month consolidation/reactivation deadline.

As part of its $25-million reactivation program for Concourse A, the Kenton County Airport Board selected Woolpert to design the pavement markings for all gate positions adjacent to the concourse. Woolpert developed a new aircraft parking layout to accommodate the mix of airline fleets and refurbished passenger boarding bridges (PBBs). Working with the airport, airlines and PBB supplier, Woolpert designed a parking layout capable of accommodating a wide range of aircraft—from small regional jets to 757s—as well as emergency vehicle access, changes in airplane design groups and changes in taxi lane utilization.

Woolpert was also tasked with removing the existing pavement markings. Employing a minimally damaging water blasting technique, Woolpert removed the aggregation of many years of markings from the apron pavement. Woolpert then designed the new pavement markings—based on the new parking layout—to include those on the apron service road, aircraft lead-in lines, stop bar positions and aircraft safety silhouettes.
