Senior Strategic Consultant David Wegner Hired to Focus on Water, Energy Coordination

ARLINGTON, Va. (Sept. 11, 2018) — David Wegner has been hired by Woolpert as a senior strategic consultant for the firm’s Strategic Consulting Group. Wegner has more than 40 years of experience working with water and energy issues, and more than 25 years of experience working for the federal government. He has served as a scientist, engineer, planner and manager, drafting policy and defining agency mission, goals and vision.

Prior to Woolpert, Wegner worked in private consulting and focused on international river, coastal and climate-related issues. His most recent position was as a member of the Senior Staff for the U.S. House of Representatives, consulting on water- energy- and climate-related legislation. His focus was on work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of State.

Wegner was appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Water Science and Technology Board, and the National Reservoir Sedimentation and Sustainability Team, and works with multiple federal water groups.

At Woolpert, Wegner, who earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and his master’s degree at Colorado State University, is working under the direction of Vice President and Managing Director of Strategic Consulting Eric Dillinger and Senior Consultant Emily Herndon. Wegner is assisting in the organization of strategic water- and energy-related project coordination and the interaction with federal and international water groups.

He said he is excited about the opportunity to bring together remote sensing and data management proficiencies with national water policy and scientific expertise. He praised Woolpert’s strong business and engineering foundation.

“This foundation can be used to build a world-class platform for transforming data and information from multiple streams into knowledge that supports predictive water, coastal shoreline, energy system and climate models, creating useful tools for multiple users and clients,” Wegner said. “The internet of water is the future, and Woolpert is poised to be a major player through its unique blend of size, expertise and really smart teams of people.”
