Spotlight on Service: Honoring Charitable Efforts Today and Every Day

DAYTON, Ohio (Sept. 5, 2019) — The United Nations established the International Day of Charity in 2012 with the objective of sensitizing and mobilizing people, non-governmental organizations and stakeholders around the world to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities.

Sept. 5 was the chosen date to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace.” Mother Teresa died in 1997.

In addition to supporting the U.N.’s efforts to eradicate poverty and strengthen global solidarity, we at Woolpert support the wide array of charitable efforts provided by our staff throughout the year. From creating a foundation to fight pediatric brain cancer to sharing a love of fast cars with special needs kids, we’re proud of their contributions every day. That’s why we’ve started a “Spotlight on Service” blog series to shine a light on their work to help make the world a better place.

In honor of International Day of Charity today, here are some of those headlines and links to their stories: One Man’s Daydream Helps Hundreds; Curing Cancer, One Mile at a Time; Fore! Honoring a Friend’s Memory; PBJ (People Bringing Joy) for Denver’s Homeless; Joshua’s Great Things Fights Pediatric Brain Cancer; Come on and Take a JoyRide!; Building Homes, Building Futures; Woolpert Walks to Fight Breast Cancer; and Like Willie Nelson, Woolpert is on the Road Again (Literally).
