Team Leader Todd Ford Brings Stadium Expertise to Woolpert’s Turf

CINCINNATI (April 25, 2018) — Woolpert has hired Todd Ford, PE, LEED AP, as a team leader in the firm’s Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture and Planning discipline, with a focus on its Higher Education and Athletics practice. Ford earned his bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati and was certified by Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in Land Surveying. He has 11 years in the industry, working largely in education-related projects.

Ford brings these skills and experience in hydraulics, stormwater and utility engineering, site development permitting and outdoor athletic facility design to Woolpert. He said these all contribute to his primary field of expertise: synthetic turf planning, design and development.

“There has been a strong evolution of the turf itself and the understanding of how turf systems actually work,” Ford said. “Stormwater and drainage are the main issue, because facilities want high-quality fields that can be playable during and after heavy rains.”

Ford, who has worked on roughly 46 athletic facility designs, is a member of multiple organizations that contribute to his ongoing education. These include the American Sports Builders Association, Synthetic Turf Council, Society for College and University Planning, Urban Land Institute and Construction Users Roundtable.

Discipline Leader Gary Murray, PE, LEED AP, said Ford has been an excellent addition to the team.

“Todd’s expertise in synthetic turf field design provides a new dimension and design offering for Woolpert,” Murray said.

Ford said he feels his experience and Woolpert’s work with higher education and athletic facilities will provide the foundation to move himself, the firm and the industry forward.

“It’s been refreshing being here this first couple of months. I feel I have a great team behind me with common goals and common expertise,” Ford said. “My feel-good story was when someone from the Charlotte office called me to ask my opinion on drainage for a baseball stadium they were working on. In this short time, I already can tell that together we’ll be able to make a difference.”
