Ryer Island Pipeline Inspection and Survey
During the summer of 2018, Woolpert completed a pipeline inspection and depth of burial survey along the marine section of a 12-inch natural gas pipeline in the Port Chicago area of the San Francisco Bay. The pipeline stretches two nautical miles underwater across the Suisun Bay to Ryer Island. Woolpert used an ultra-high resolution and ultra-high density sonar system to produce detailed images of where the pipeline was exposed.
The Woolpert team noted spans, inflections, and hazardous debris and identified scouring areas. In addition, Woolpert acquired near continuous depth of burial data to create a 3D pipeline alignment across the entire marine section. This level of data detail allowed the team to verify and track a separate adjacent decommissioned 8-inch pipeline.
